This is a fun book about a girl who finds a monster and puts it in her basement, and it keeps growing. Level one, pres-grade. A good book for learning how to read. I read this when I was much younger, and I loved it!

Howls Moving castle by Diane Wynne Jones
Howl's Moving Castle by Diane Wynne JonesHowl's Moving Castle by Diane Wynne Jones is one of the best books I have read.It starts out with Sophie as the eldest sister of three sisters. In the land which she lives in, the eldest is not considered to amount to much. So, when her other two sisters set out to seek their fortunes, Sophie is perfectly fine with working in her father’s hat shop talking to the hats, such as "You will marry money". After all the eldest do not amount to much, right? One day while she is in the hat shop, the witch of the waste, who is said to be as bad as Wizard Howl, who supposedly eats girls hearts, according to rumors, stops by the shop. She turns Sophie into an old lady. The rest of the story is very good, with lots of twists and turns, and the sequel Castle in the air is even better. There was also a movie based on the book, so be sure to check it out!

My Evil Twin by Thomas McKean
My Evil Twin by Thomas McKean
My Evil Twin is one of the best children's books I have read. The story may not be at its upmost in realism, but the rest of the story takes care of that.
Jellimiah John Jensen hates his first name. He was named after his grandfather. He has his first school, in California, call him John, but one teacher slips and he has to endure being called Smelly Jelly, etc.
John is also a geek, and not very well liked. He gets his school to send in his transcript without Jellimiah. The school makes a mistake, and when he arrives at his new school, the first thing he has said to him is, "Where is your twin brother"? This book is a wonderful comedy of errors and triumphs.

The Plant that ate dirty socks by Nancy McArthur
The plant that ate dirty socks by Nancy McArthur is not a common book.
It is about two brothers, one very neat, and one well, messy. The brother who is messy - Michael, is always ordering things from the back of magazines. So, when a packet of "amazing beans" come in the mail Michael doesn't really think about it, and gives one to his brother, Norman.
The plants grow, and soon socks are missing. After figuring out that Michael’s plant eats socks, they don't feed it for a few days, and it eats a library book. A lot of good laughs and wonderful story-telling make this nine book series one of the best kids books I have read.
